Park Management

The Blue and John Mountains National Park is a protected area under the Natural Resources Conservation Authority Act, Forestry Act and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust Act. The park is managed by the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust (JCDT).

The park management programme includes monitoring and evaluation of plant, animals and water; reforestation and invasive species control; as well as education in surrounding communities. It also comprises the maintenance of hiking trails and recreational sites. Income from Holywell, Portland Gap and the Peak Trail support conservation efforts in the Blue and John Crow Mountains.

The JCDT is part-funded by the Government of Jamaica and relies on financial support from donor agencies, companies and individuals to safeguard the natural and cultural heritage of the protected area.

The JCDT is a registered charity and contributions to the trust are tax deductible.
